National Film Challenge

The National Film Challenge returns for another year of lightning fast filmmaking OCTOBER 19-22, 2012. The Film Challenge is a thrilling adventure where you and your crew of filmmakers give it your everything to write, shoot and edit a film in just three days. Jam-packing the equivalent of an entire year-long (or more) production into one weekend may seem crazy, but it's the kind of crazy that gets your creative juices flowing and forces you to think on your feet.

You walk away from the weekend with new skills, a finished product you are proud to screen and the chance at taking home one of over 20 awards including Best Film and the Audience Award. Additionally, there are cash prizes for winners and film screenings. It's time to stop talking and starting doing -- REGISTER NOW and join filmmakers around the world by making a film for the National Film Challenge!

What are the requirements?

  • All writing, shooting, and editing must take place during the weekend of October 19-22, 2012
  • 4-7 minute film
  • Follows randomly selected genre
  • includes required elements (revealed on day 1)

What are the prizes?

  • Best Film Award: $1,000 cash
  • Audience Award: $500 cash
  • Both winners screen at the 48 Hour Film Project's Filmapalooza in Los Angeles in 2013
