The mission of the National Film Challenge is the same as that of the 48 Hour Film Project: To advance filmmaking and promote filmmakers. Through its competition, the Challenge encourages filmmakers and would-be filmmakers to get out there and make movies. The tight deadline puts the focus squarely on the filmmakers-emphasizing creativity and teamwork skills. While the time limit places an unusual restriction on the filmmakers, it is also liberating by putting an emphasis on "doing" instead of "talking."
The National Film Challenge opens up the concept of the 48 Hour Film Project to all filmmakers all over the world, regardless if you happen to live in a city with a 48 Hour Film Project event. The Challenge is a fresh and innovative approach designed to make filmmaking a thrilling experience so participants walk away with the "Film Bug" and go on to make bigger and better films!
